Name: Laurette Sengers
Department: Localization
Employee since: 2007
Summary: “We work in a fresh and vibrant environment that is constantly moving, bringing all kinds of new challenges.
What is your role at the moment?
I manage the Localization Department, where we handle all language matters: from copywriting to editing, from translations to review.
What do you enjoy about working at SPIL GAMES?
When I came here, not much had been established, so I could lay down the basis of the department. We strive to deliver high-quality content within the limitations of an online environment (i.e., short deadlines, short and simple texts). Within two years, the department has grown to four people and we are still looking to take on more challenges every day. In the two years that I have been here, I have grown substantially as a person, as well. I was encouraged to pursue my goals and I feel my work is appreciated.
What was your motivation to come to work here?
SPIL GAMES, being a start-up company that was just breaking through, was entering a very challenging phase when I joined in 2007. The period we are currently in is more about laying down structures and formalizing processes, which I think is very interesting as well. In January 2009, we became the biggest online casual gaming network in the world, and I’d like to see this position strengthened even further so that we can also beat our competition at a local level in all of our markets!
Could you describe the company culture?
We work in a fresh and vibrant environment that is constantly moving, bringing all kinds of challenges with it. Decisions are made swiftly, if they feel right, and that is where the real strength of SPIL GAMES lies. And, even with an increasing number of colleagues in their late 30s, I think we are still a very young company: eager, hard-working, but we all do it with a smile.
What makes SPIL GAMES special?
Our lunches are well prepared and we all have lunch at the same time. This means that you can sit next to one person on one day and next to someone else the next. This is good for team building and knowing who is doing what. Also, when you look at the kind of people working at SPIL GAMES, it seems a rather weird mix: from the IT specialist geeks to the game development creatives, and from the persistent Channel Managers to the posh sales people. But somehow, it all works. That’s special!
